Fontana Dam

Hi! We're in Fontana Dam which is a tiny resort town in North Carolina--it's like a strange mini-Disney; we just paid almost $70.00 for 2 1/2 days worth of groceries! There's a nice lake here, though. We'll be in Gatlinburg soon and will upload more pictures and a longer post. Tomorrow we enter the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and we'll be going in and out of Tennessee and North Carolina for the next week or so. Thanks for reading!

  1. Sorry It cost you so much for food. Tammy said tha Fontana Resort is a little Naples because most of the people that go there are from Naples, That's why you have to pay Naples prices.

Hope you guys are healthy and fit again. LOL

  3. Mike and Hannah,

My name is Kevin Kelly, I am an AMC PA member for more years than you are alive.

I will be following your post and praying for you during this adventure. When you get close to PA, I will plan on meeting you on the A Trail.

Pennsylvania is where the good Lord dropped all the rocks during the last Ice Age. It's beautiful, however between the shale and loose rocks very treacherous. This where the 3 out of 4 thru hikers decide to stop.

My goal is do all I can to get through our Commonwealth healthy and happy. So let me know what you need and we will plan on meeting you, most likely in Hamburg at the Pulpit or Pinnacle and then at the Gaps, Lehigh and Delaware. Hamburg PA is home of Cabela's, so it is a great stop to replace gear.

Enjoy the trail magic and God's creation.

    Blessings,

    Kevin
